“The French government has changed its tactics against the Kanak people and New Caledonia,” said Maurice Wimian, a member of the Caledonian Senate, APA reports.

The Senate member emphasized that work is ongoing to manage the governance structures in New Caledonia by people representing the Kanak people: “Today, the head of both our provinces is a representative of the Kanak people. And this suggests that our political leader is with the Kanak people. Today, France has changed its tactics. Currently, a number of political institutions in New Caledonia are governed by the Kanak people. Exactly for this reason that official Paris wants to make changes to its policy in this field in the country. The main interests of the French authority are based on the conclusion of this process. People in New Caledonia understand this well. From next year, we will try that different political institutions can make their decisions independently. We think that our policy will be very successful. We also know that France will continue its policy against us. The government of New Caledonia and the Kanak people will not back down from their policy too."
