Scholz: "Future Palestinian state should not have armed forces"

"The path to peace between Israel and the Palestinians lies through the creation of two states, but the future Palestinian state should not have its own armed forces," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Wednesday, APA reports citing RIA Novosti.

In his speech in the lower house of the German parliament, Scholz said that Germany, the EU, the United States and many other countries believe that the creation of a Palestinian state is necessary to resolve the conflict. "Of course, through negotiations. And it is clear that we are talking about a state that will not have its own armed forces," Scholz said.

The Chancellor also stated the need for reforms in the Palestinian National Authority. According to him, it is impossible to fully talk about its legitimacy, since elections to this body have not been held for 17 years.
