The Middle Corridor has grown 15-fold in two years, Director of Kazakhstan’s TALAP Center for Applied Research Rakhim Oshakbayev said during a plenary session of the CAMCA 2026 Regional Forum held in Baku, APA reports.
“This is the Middle Corridor, and it is the symbol of our forum. The Middle Corridor has grown more than 15-fold over two years. This is a great success,” Rakhim Oshakbayev said.
According to him, the development of the Middle Corridor is also one of the most important priorities for Kazakhstan.
Rakhim Oshakbayev noted that a large share of freight transportation between China and Europe is still carried out via the northern route, and the development of the Middle Corridor is of great importance in terms of diversifying transport routes.
He also pointed out that one of the main challenges facing Kazakhstan together with Azerbaijan is the shallowing of the Caspian Sea.
“Over the past 20 years, the coastline in the northern part of the Caspian Sea has receded by up to 56 kilometers. Over the past five years, the pace of this process has reached up to 30 centimeters per year. If this trend continues, the sustainability and operating costs of the new corridor will become a major challenge for our countries,” he added.
