“For many years, COP conferences have been held, financial resources are allocated, but poor countries do not have access to these resources,” said Joyce Banda, the former president of Malawi at the panel discussion within the framework of the XI Baku Global Forum, APA reports.

“There was serious destruction in my country as a result of the typhoon and I was appointed as Goodwill Ambassadors for the disaster recovery by the president regarding eith this issue and I’ve been working hard for the last 12 months. Unfortunately, such natural disasters, these typhoons, do not only occur in my region and country, but also in other countries, in African countries,” Joyce Banda said.

According to her, the poor countries not having an access to COP funds is due to bureaucracy and other procedures.

“I should admit that we have failed on this issue, on climate change. Procedures, bureaucracy do not allow to work. Societies in African countries are now waiting for action to be taken, to be helped. Now is the time to take an action,” the former Malawian President stressed.
