Baku. Elshen Mammadov – APA-Sport. “I think we performed more successfully in Beijing than we did in Athens. At least we managed to score more medals now”, national Olympic Committee (NOC) vice-president, world freestyle wrestling champ Khazar Isayev told APA-Sport.
The official stated that Russian wrestlers hindered Azeri sportsmen to win gold medals in the 29th Games in Beijing, China.
“It is very hard to struggle against Russian wrestlers. As you see, Rovshan Bayramov, Vitaly Rahimov and Khetag Gazyumov were all beaten by Russian opponents. I think we lacked a little bit experience and skill”, he said.
NOC observer over Wrestling Federation that both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams need reforms.
“I saw all bouts of Azerbaijani wrestlers. The tension and tiredness of Greco-Roman wrestler Rovshan Bayramov resulted in defeat by Russian opponent in final. It is connected with the excess weight, and training process of the sportsmen. We were dissatisfied with the freestyle wrestlers. We expected medals from Chamsulvara Chamsulvarayev and Zalimkhan Huseynov. Novruz Temrezov was close to score a medal in the competition too”, he added.
NOC vice-president noted that AWF should work on the mistakes made in the 29th games.
