Unfortunately, those guilty of grave crimes in Azerbaijan later go abroad and join smear campaigns against the country, Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev told reporters on Wednesday, APA reports.

“These people take such steps because of the lack of high culture. I strongly condemn such cases,” he added.

Mehdiyev noted that normal people should not take this path.

“There is opposition within the country. There are also people who are abroad and try to blacken and defame Azerbaijan. No representatives of any nation should take this path. Many problems in the economic and social spheres have been solved in Azerbaijan. Therefore, the high voter turnout in the election is natural,” he added.

The PA head said sometimes people guilty of grave crimes in Azerbaijan flee the country.

“In foreign countries they begin to criticize Azerbaijan. Of course, this is not good. Such people resort to these actions because of the lack of culture and education,” he noted.

Azerbaijan is holding presidential election today, on April 11. Eight candidates are registered for participating in the election.

The election is observed by 894 international observers and 58,175 local observers.

The voting will end at 19:00 local time.
