The first quadrilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey and Georgia will contribute to security and stability in the region, as well as to the development of economic relations between the countries, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Wednesday.

He was commenting on the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit to Baku, APA’s Tehran bureau reports.

"I hope this initiative will serve the interests of both countries. We believe that this cooperation will contribute to the peaceful coexistence of the region's peoples. The meeting will focus on political issues of the four countries, including the regional situation, combating illegal drug trafficking, regional security, and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

Within the framework of the visit to Baku, Iran’s top diplomat will hold bilateral meetings with Azerbaijani officials to discuss bilateral relations.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze will hold the first quadrilateral meeting in Baku.
