Chairman of the Inter-Agency Commission for Free and Fair Elections in Georgia, Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani has condemned the use of religion in the pre-election period.
According to APA's local bureau, the speaker called the adoption of voters by using religion unacceptable.
“Some people force citizens to swear to the Koran so that they will vote for this or other political parties during the election. Such cases must be condemned,” Tsulukiani said.
Last week, Georgia's opposition "Building Movement" party has appealed to the Interdepartmental commission for free and fair elections regarding the cases of pressure on and intimidation of voters in Dmanisi district. The party claims that lawyer of the local headquarters of Georgian Dream party Emzar Petriashvili received the promise of Yirghanchay village residents to vote for the party's candidate on October 21 by forcing them to swear on the Koran.
