Some individuals and organizations in Azerbaijan and beyond are interested in assessing the amendments proposed to the Law “On information, informatization and protection of information” as a restriction, MP Aflatun Amashov said in his speech at the parliament on Friday, APA reported.

He noted that the internet is a part of legal relations system in many leading countries.

“This means that the internet space has moved from virtuality to reality. As a result, certain types of responsibilities have been determined,” he said. “The same process is going on in Azerbaijan. Of course, there are certain issues that can be disputed. Because, this sphere is new and dynamic in nature, and there is always a need for discussion.”

The parliamentarian stressed the need to regulate the internet space in order to ensure Azerbaijan’s information security, and assured everyone that these amendments do not mean restricting the freedom of speech and expression.

According to him, it is not right to give the issue speculative shades and mislead the public.

“An objective approach should be taken towards the problem. An objective approach is that both draft laws complement each other and serve to regulation of the internet space,” he added.
