Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Azerbaijani MPs have raised a strong objection to the police questioning of Azerbaijani diaspora head in the Netherlands Ilhan Askin following a complaint by Armenians.

Speaking at the parliament’s meeting on Friday, MP Ganira Pashayeva calls this injustice.

“Ilhan Askin was summoned by police upon a complaint by Armenians for his statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at a rally held two years ago,” said the MP, calling on all Azerbaijanis around the world as well as lawyers in Azerbaijan to support the diaspora head in this matter.”

In his speech, MP Fazil Mustafa said that the diaspora head fell victim to Armenians’ fury as he supported the erection of a monument to the Khojaly genocide.

“Europe drops remarks the arrests made in Azerbaijan. Look what is happening in Europe? A person is prosecuted as he said the truth. We should support him”, he said.

Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov called for an investigation into the matter.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani-Turkish Cultural Center in the Netherlands Ilhan AÅŸkın was summoned by The Hague police on September 4 this year. The police received a complaint that he violated the law on a national basis on July 13 and 17 this year. Making speech at a rally held on July 1 in Almelo city, AÅŸkın’s statement “Karabakh will be a graveyard to Armenians” caused resentment of Armenians.
