Belarusian citizen detained after attempting to enter Baku Metro through ventilation system

The Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a joint statement to APA that the incident happened around 1:30am March 25. Found at the scene are a key used in the subway, a pair of gloves, a headlamp, two ropes of different lengths, 10 paint cans, 12 caps of paint spray cans, a Nikon digital camera, a Sony head camera. Police also found on him photographs of Tbilisi and Yerevan subway stations, schemes of those stations and those of Baku Metro, a cell phone, and money.

During the preliminary investigation, which was also joined by Belarusian embassy officials, Sergei said he wanted to enter the subway tunnel by cutting the iron bars at the ventilation tube and draw graffiti-style pictures inside. It became clear that on March 18 Sergei left Belarus for Georgia, two days later he left Georgia for Armenia, and on March 23 he went back to Georgia, and from there he came to Azerbaijan.

The fact is under investigation.
