Azerbaijani diaspora appeals to Russia State Duma for Khojaly genocide recognition

“Regrettably, the State Duma has not so far discussed the issue of the Khojaly tragedy’s recognition as genocide. This causes discontent among the Russian Azerbaijanis and in Azerbaijan,” the letter says.

Note that, following the recent escalation between Russia and Turkey, MPs Levichev and Mironov has proposed to the State Duma a bill which includes penalties against those who “deny the Armenian genocide”.

The Azerbaijani diaspora members have noted that Mironov’s initiative is indicative of Russian politicians having a biased approach towards the matter.
