Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. The British Embassy in Azerbaijan will organize several events to celebrate 500 days to go until the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 campaign in Azerbaijan in co-operation with the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sport. As a part of the campaign, the British Embassy, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Paralympic Committee (POC) have launched an on-line competition (in Azerbaijani language) which will run on the websites of the Embassy (www.ukinazerbaijan.fco.gov.uk) and www.olimpiya.az from 23 February until 10 March 2011. 15 questions developed jointly with the NOC and the POC are focused on the history of the Olympic and Paralympic movement, London 2012 Games, and the history of Azerbaijan’s participation in the Games. As a prize the winner will receive two BMI tickets to the UK and two tickets to an Olympic event in 2012, the British embassy told APA. On the 5th of March on Azerbaijan’s National Day of Sport, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Embassy will host a joint celebration - a race along the sea-front boulevard in Baku with the participation of 500 people. The significance of the number of the people reflects the slogan of the next event: ‘500 days to go’.
Furthermore, in partnership with the British Council, the Embassy will organise a School Sports Week – these sport festivals that will take place between 5 and 14 March at sport halls of 10 schools situated in Baku involving a mixed group of 300 boys and girls aged 8-13 reflecting different types of Olympic Games.
The winners of the above mentioned events will be awarded their prizes at a Reception on 14 March at Baku Business Center.
Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012 will take place in London from July 27 to August 12 and from August 29 to September 9.
