Four people were killed and at least nine others wounded on Saturday when a car bomb explosion hit a convoy of Red Crescent trucks in the city of al-Salamiyah
in the west-central province of Hama.
Elsewhere, six people lost their lives after militants fired rocket and mortar shells on densely populated residential areas in the western city of Homs. Militants also attacked two hospitals in the city.
In the north, mortar shells fired by foreign-backed militants killed three Syrian citizens, including a 3-year-old child.
In the southwestern city of Daraa, 14 children were injured in a mortar attack that targeted the city’s Shamal al-Khat neighborhood.
Mortar fire also wounded five people in al-Dweil'a and Bab Sharqi neighborhoods in the capital, Damascus.
The surge in attacks on residential areas comes after militants' repeated losses in the strategic Qalamoun region, near the Lebanese border.
On Tuesday, Syrian troops drove out militants from the towns of Assal al-Ward, Housh Arab and Jab'adin, one day after government forces retook full control of the towns of Ma’loula and al-Sarkha.
On Sunday, Syrian troops recaptured eastern heights overlooking Rankous plain, cutting off the militants’ supply routes between the area and the Lebanese side of the border.
Syria has been experiencing unrelenting militancy since March 2011. The Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey -- are said to be supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
Reports say that more than 150,000 people have so far been killed and millions of others displaced because of the ongoing violence.
