Interview of Fariz Jafarov, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to APA
The Strategy encompasses more than 50 initiatives
- Could you provide more details about the five-year Digital Economy Strategy you mentioned during the "New Technologies for a New World" panel at the XII Global Baku Forum?
- The Digital Economy Strategy for 2025-2030 is being developed through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This strategy includes more than 50 initiatives covering the public and private sectors, as well as civil society. Among these initiatives are the digitalization of industry, the application of artificial intelligence and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies in industrial enterprises, particularly in production lines, and the development of digital roadmaps for industrial entities, as well as the creation of artificial intelligence solutions based on a large-scale database to be established in the Azerbaijani language. Including the establishment of a "Digital Twin" in Azerbaijan, the study of daily processes in agriculture, urban planning, the transport sector and other areas, and the creation of opportunities for real-time decision-making, are the basis of this strategy.
- You also mentioned the establishment of a New Technologies Center. What will be its main functions?
- Through the Technologies Center, various initiatives are being implemented to motivate businesses in the field of digitalization, encourage them, and share existing global best practices.
Azerbaijani citizens are provided free access to over 8,000 online courses
- What initiatives have been taken recently in Azerbaijan to develop human capital?
- Human capital development is one of the key initiatives I mentioned earlier. As you know, for the second year in a row, the Ministry of Economy has been providing Azerbaijani citizens with free access to more than 8,000 online courses through Coursera, the world's largest online learning platform. This opportunity has been reopened for our citizens as of yesterday. This means that within a year, over 100,000 Azerbaijani citizens will have access to educational opportunities provided by this platform. This initiative will allow individuals to enhance their knowledge and gain practical experience. Leading global educational institutions, including Oxford University, are part of this initiative.
Various studies are being conducted on the application of Artificial Intelligence in the transport sector
- What other opportunities does the Digital Economy Strategy offer for businesses?
- The strategy also includes initiatives such as providing businesses with various software solutions, government funding for international certification programs sought by Azerbaijani citizens, and the establishment of data centers by government agencies. These efforts will accelerate the development of Azerbaijan's digital economy and contribute extensively to the growth of the non-oil sector.
- One of the key areas where AI applications are crucial is the transport sector. What measures are being taken to accelerate this process?
- Currently, various government agencies, including the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, are conducting research on the application of AI in the transport sector in Azerbaijan. These efforts include building simulations, detecting traffic congestion, creating new transportation routes in affected areas, and utilizing various technological tools.
