Yerevan aspires to hold negotiations on peace treaty with Baku in Washington, Brussels - Russian MFA Spokesperson

"Yerevan's expectation of help from the West has become a fiasco," Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, APA reports.

Zakharova noted that in September, October, and November of the current year, Armenia was invited to hold negotiations both in Moscow and as well as within the framework of multilateral events, Russia still has not yet received a completely clear response to this proposal.

Ministry Spokesperson stressed that official Yerevan aspires to hold negotiations on a peace treaty with Baku in Washington, Brussels.

According to her, the U.S. and the European Union cannot be considered honest mediators for a number of well-known reasons. Their goal is to press Russia out of the South Caucasus, and their actions serve this.

“Looking at the proposals sent to Armenia, this is obvious – negotiations are still frozen,” Zakharova noted.

Russian MFA Spokesperson also added that in the current conditions, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is capable of playing an important role in terms of ensuring regional stability.

According to Zakharova, deploying the Organization's monitoring mission on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border can become an important factor in ensuring Armenia's security, unlike the EU mission.
