Chatham House: We respect Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and independence

Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, has replied to protest of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Great Britain over the planned speech of head of the separatist regime in the Nagorno Karabakh Bako Sahakyan at the Institute.

Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA that according to the letter of reply sent to the Embassy by Chatham House - the Royal Institute of International Affairs, such meeting does not mean approval or recognition of Nagorno Karabakh’s position. The Institute says it understands Azerbaijan’s concern over Sahakyan’s visit and respects its sovereignty and independence.

The letter also says that the meeting is not a public event and will not be attended by media representatives, will be organized under the rules of the Institute and only limited number of experts will join the meeting, and the event does not serve promotion of separatism. Even the announcement on the website of Chatham House has been removed.

Speech of the head of the separatist regime in the Nagorno Karabakh Bako Sahakyan is planned to be made on July 8, 2015.
