The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights raised its concerns about the lack of information on the concrete measures adopted to preserve and protect the cultural and religious heritage sites in Armenia, APA reports citing the UN Committee's Concluding Observations on the 4th periodic report of Armenia.

The document expresses special concern about cultures that are at risk of disappearance.

The Committee further stressed the lack of adequate financial support provided to cultural institutions that aim for the maintenance of religious and cultural identity, particularly the cultural identity of national minorities.

The Committee recommends that Armenia adopt the necessary measures to enhance the protection and preservation of the heritage sites.

"This necessitates, more than ever, the dispatch of an independent fact-finding mission to assess the current state of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia, which has historically been under attack to eradicate any trace of Azerbaijanis who had lived in those territories," Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov said as he commented on the document.
