Tensions in Russia’s relations with Azerbaijan have improved Azerbaijan–U.S. relations, said John E. Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center at the 1st Azerbaijan–U.S. Think Tanks Forum, APA reports.
“The shooting down of the AZAL aircraft and the denial of it, the unfavorable treatment of Azerbaijani businessmen in Russia, and a number of other such factors are bringing Azerbaijan–U.S. relations even closer,” Herbst said.
He noted that the Trump route encourages the United States to pay more attention to the South Caucasus, and that the relations among Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Türkiye are very important here.
Touching upon his country’s cooperation with Türkiye, the American expert stated that the Turkish president is not an easy partner. However, Washington’s interests with Türkiye coincide in the Middle East and the South Caucasus.
