Chair of Azerbaijani Parliament meets with Chairman of the Irish Parliament

‘Civil population and facilities were never targeted during the local anti-terrorist measures that Azerbaijan carried out in complete compliance with international law – including the international humanitarian law,’ Chair of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said at her meeting with Speaker of Ceann Comhairle (Chairman) of the Irish Parliament’s Dáil Éireann Seán Ó Fearghaíl, APA reports citing the press service of Azerbaijan's Parliament.

As she was giving the Chairman of the Assembly of Ireland a detailed description of the current situation in our region, Sahiba Gafarova recalled Azerbaijan’s having enforced the pertaining resolutions of the UN Security Council single-handedly by having freed her own lands from the Armenian occupation. Then, Mrs Gafarova continued, Azerbaijan had offered the opposing party a peace treaty that would be based on five principles of the international law. It has been 3 years since but Armenia has not signed that document yet, alas, according to Mrs Gafarova who added that Armenia had instead continued the political blackmailing of Azerbaijan internationally with the unfounded claims of ‘a blockade’ and ‘a humanitarian crisis’.

According to the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament, in all that time Armenia never withdrew its 10-thousand-strong military force from Garabagh but, on the contrary, has been supplying them with a financial support, weapons and ammunition – whilst also having backed the puppet regime in Azerbaijan’s Garabagh Region all along. Mrs Gafarova went further to tell Mr Fearghaíl of the Armenian border provocations and continued mining of the Azerbaijani territories. Those provocations’ frequency leaped last week, with the explosions of the mines planted by Armenian subversion groups having killed and wounded civilians and servicemen alike. All that brought about the local anti-terrorist measures of Azerbaijan, intended to avert potential armed provocations and acts of terror by the illegal Armenian armed units in Azerbaijan’s Garabagh Region, remove the terrorist groups from that region, ensure the security of peaceful populace including the civilian workforce and military personnel engaged in the restoration work afoot in that area and, last but not least, restore the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A complete ceasefire was agreed on following the appeal of Garabagh’s Armenian residents on 20 September, Speaker Gafarova continued. As agreed, the units of the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian militant formations stationed in the Garabagh Region of Azerbaijan are to leave their positions and posts and lay down their arms, with the subsequent total disarmament of that whole force. Which is what is happening now, Sahiba Gafarova concluded.
