Today, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov met with the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), To Lam, who is on a state visit to the country, the Cabinet of Ministers told APA.
The meeting emphasized that Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations have very ancient and rich traditions.
It was noted that the foundation of mutual relations was laid by the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the first President of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan in 1959 and Heydar Aliyev’s visit to Vietnam in 1983 marked the beginning of the friendship between the two peoples. During the Soviet era, nearly 5,000 Vietnamese studied in Azerbaijan.
During To Lam’s visit, the significance of the exhibition dedicated to Ho Chi Minh and the opening of his bust at the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry was emphasized.
It was stated that by continuing the legacy left by Heydar Aliyev and Ho Chi Minh, the leadership of both countries today demonstrates political will toward strengthening friendly relations. In particular, President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Vietnam in 2014 made a significant contribution to the development of relations and to raising the level of trust-based cooperation.
Satisfaction was expressed regarding the effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vietnam both bilaterally and multilaterally within the framework of international organizations.
During the meeting, the future development of Azerbaijan-Vietnam cooperation in various areas, including economic-trade, investment, oil and gas, cultural-humanitarian, and other directions, was discussed.
