Azerbaijan repatriates 8 children and 4 women from Syria

On November 21, 2023, 12 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including 8 children and 4 women, who were held in camps located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, were repatriated to country as a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Rules for Repatriation and rehabilitation of minor citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan living in difficult conditions in a Foreign Country" approved by Decree No. 2336 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 28, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan told APA.

Initially, the location, identity, and citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the repatriates were determined, and their passage to the territory of the Republic of Türkiye was ensured.

Representatives of relevant state institutions responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were sent to the Republic of Türkiye, and preliminary medical and psychological examination of the repatriates was carried out.

Azerbaijani citizens were provided with return certificates and flight tickets to the Republic of Azerbaijan by the relevant coordination work carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye.

On November 21, 2023, the mentioned citizens were repatriated to Azerbaijani accompanied by a delegation.

It is planned to implement relevant measures in the direction of social rehabilitation and reintegration of repatriates into society.

The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take necessary measures for the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have become victims of armed conflict on the territory of foreign countries.
