Germany, the host of this year's UEFA European Championship, kicked off the tournament on Friday, playing in Group A and beating Scotland 5-1, APA reports citing BBN.

The German national team breezed through the game, scoring three goals in the first half of the match and two in the second half. Among the scorers were Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug, and Emre Can. Scotland struggled to keep the ball in its possession against a three-time winning Euro champion, with Germany's possession at 73%. Scottish footballer Antonio Rudiger managed to squeeze a goal for the team in the 87th minute, bringing some joy to fans.

Germany is currently at the top of its group, with three points. Other teams in the group, Hungary and Switzerland, will have their first match on Saturday.
