Europe’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said the EU is not at war and it is going to stay this way, but he called for bolstering the bloc’s defense capabilities, APA reports citing TASS.
"There is a war going on in eastern Europe, <...> and it doesn't look like it's coming to an end," he said in an interview with La Sexta television. "Europeans must realize that the peace created between us is an exception."
"This is a violent world," the diplomat went on to say. "We are not at war and we are not going to be."
Borrell also said the EU needs to think about stepping up its defense capabilities.
"If we were at war, we would be talking about World War III," the diplomat said.
He also said EU countries had trained more than 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers over the past year.
