Denmark has expanded its military contingent in the Arctic and Greenland, said Denmark’s Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen, APA reports.
According to the minister, the decision was made amid criticism voiced by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the weak defense of Greenland.
“We will continue to strengthen our military presence in Greenland. At the same time, we will focus on holding more military exercises within the framework of NATO and increasing the Alliance’s presence in the Arctic,” Poulsen said.
It is noted that Copenhagen announced this decision ahead of a planned trilateral meeting at the White House involving officials from the United States, Denmark, and Greenland.
