"Developing relations with Georgia is one of Azerbaijan's foreign policy priorities. The peoples of Azerbaijan and Georgia have lived in friendship and good neighborliness for centuries," Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at the 11th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, APA reports.

According to him, the strategic partnership between the two countries has reached a qualitatively new stage over the past period.

The Prime Minister noted that the dynamics of high-level political dialogue play a leading role in strengthening cooperation. In this regard, the state visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia in April and the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Azerbaijan in May as part of WUF13 are of particular importance:

"These visits and the agreements reached have once again confirmed the strategic nature of our relations and given additional impetus to deepening our cooperation in various fields. We have always supported each other within international organizations. I would particularly like to emphasize our mutual support on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty."

Ali Asadov added that trade and economic cooperation is developing with positive dynamics and steadily expanding:

"Georgia is one of Azerbaijan's main trading partners. During the first nine months of this year, our trade turnover increased by 42%, exceeding the total figure for last year and approaching $1 billion. Our cooperation in the field of investment is showing good momentum. Azerbaijan is the largest investor in Georgia. Thus, Azerbaijan has invested nearly $4 billion in Georgia."
