In the last five years (2019-2023) the total production capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan has increased by 31% and neared 1 700 MW, APA-Economics reports citing a report by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The report notes that if in 2019, the total production capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan was 1 289 MW, this indicator rose to 1 688 MW in 2023.
According to the document, in 2020, 2021 and 2022, the mentioned indicator was at the level of 1 296 MW, 1 316 MW və 1 325 MW respectively.
The capacity of hydropower plants, which make up the main part of the total production capacity of renewable energy sources in the country, has increased by 13,7% from 1 145 MW to 1 302 MW in the last five years.
It was noted that the rest of the total production capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan is accounted for by wind, solar, bioenergy and other sources.
