UN Deputy Secretary General: Indifference to climate change causes crisis

Miguel Ángel Moratinos, UN Deputy Secretary General, and the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) addressed a letter to the participants of the 29th High-Level Meeting themed “Pathway to COP29: Sustainable and Resilient Future” held in Baku, APA reports.

The letter was read by the co-chair of Nizami Ganjavi International Centre, Ismail Serageldin.

In his letter, the UN official stated that indifference to climate change is causing the crisis, political divisions, and fragmentation accelerate this process. He emphasized that those suffering from the climate crisis are the main victims and stressed that no one should be left alone in the fight against climate change.

In a video message at the event, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IEAE) and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, Najat Mokhtar, stated that humanity is making crucial decisions today for the future of the planet.

IEAE Deputy Director General stated that climate change is not a challenge that any country can solve alone; it requires a collective approach and solidarity.

He thanked the Nizami Ganjavi International Center for organizing this meeting.

In his video address to the event, former British Prime Minister (2007-2010) Gordon Brown stated that today, alongside climate change, issues such as xenophobia, conflicts, and disruptions to stability in various parts of the world threaten humanity.

He emphasized the necessity of solidarity in combating climate change.
