“We want COP29 to be inclusive,” said Ugochi Daniels, the Deputy Director General of International Organization for Migration (IOM) during panel discussions within the framework of the XI Baku Global Forum, APA reports.

She said that it is important to put the vulnerable groups which are most affected by this problem at the center of the discussions on climate change:

“Because the most vulnerable groups are those most affected by climate change. 3,6 million people live in climate change hotspots. Most of these are poor countries, island countries, and some are landlocked. The combined atmospheric CO2 emission of these countries is only 4 %, but they are the ones affected by the disasters resulting from climate change, 70 % of the losses occur in these countries. They pay the heaviest price, despite they don't "contribute" to climate change,” Deputy Director General of IOM emphasized in her speech.

In her speech, she talked about the role of migration in the process and said that sometimes migration acts as a solution:

“Today, we are talking about financing, however, imagine that most of the countries affected by the severe consequences of climate change pay 4-6 times higher interest rates than they invest in education and health.”
