EU ignores Baku's stance on the mission in Armenia - Zakharova

Russia doubts that the European Union mission dispatched to Armenia is of a civilian nature, said Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in a statement on the official website of the institution on the new mission of the European observers, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

"We have already reacted to the European Union (EU) Council's decision to establish the mission in Armenia. The European Union representatives who emphasize that the new mission is of an entirely civilian nature, are insincere. This takes place as part of the EU's Common Security and Defense Policy. Therefore, it should be treated accordingly. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have recorded the efforts of the European Union and the West as a whole to strengthen their positions by any means in our ally Armenia. We see in these attempts an exceptional geopolitical situation, far from the interests of the real normalization of relations in the South Caucasus. Everything is being done to push Russia out of the region and weaken its historical role as the main provider of security. Baku's negative evaluations about this initiative are ignored," Zakharova noted.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman noted that the European Union's experience in participating in the resolution of various regional conflicts is ambiguous:

"Brussels can barely boast about its achievements in this field. Consider mediation efforts and the EU mission in Serbia's Kosovo. This should be considered when assessing the EU's decision to establish a new mission in Armenia.

We are confident that the complex agreements reached by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia will continue to be the main factor of stability and security in the region in the near future.

Their full implementation, which includes the opening of transportation communications, the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the establishment of relations between the two countries' publics, experts, religious circles, and parliamentarians, as well as negotiations on the preparation of a peace treaty, is a direct way to improve the situation in the region, The Russian Federation is ready to contribute it in any manner," Zakharova said in her statement.
