Armenian police forces attempted to prevent the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, from entering Sardarapat Memorial, APA reports citing Armenian media.
It is reported that the Catholicos, accompanied by his entourage were told that he did not have an entry permit.
The reason cited for this was the simultaneous visits of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President Vahagn Khachaturyan, and Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan to the same location.
It has been reported in articles published in the local media that II Karekin was prevented from visiting the Sardarapat memorial complex because he played a role in Bagrat Galstanyan, who is a priest by profession, joining the political process.
Articles blame II Karekin for undermining the country's spiritual ideology and church traditions, as well as sowing seeds of hostility and hatred among society.
"It's precisely this kind of treatment that II Karekin deserves. Because he himself has driven the church to the edge of the abyss. Now let him take pride in his frozen status," it is stated.
