The countries participating in the Mecca Accord (Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan) have decided to immediately begin implementing their joint defense commitments and deploy military forces on Saudi territory, according to a joint statement following an emergency meeting of the alliance committee, published by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense, APA reports.
"The Committee decided to immediately move to the practical implementation of joint defense commitments, take the necessary measures to provide the agreed-upon armed forces and military capabilities, and deploy them as soon as possible in the Kingdom," the document states.
It is noted that the troop deployment will be carried out in accordance with the national laws of the participating countries to enhance combat readiness, military integration, and collective ability to counter threats. The statement emphasizes that the security of each state is "an integral part of the collective security of the three countries."
The three countries activated the treaty following the increasing attacks by the Houthis, part of the Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah, on Saudi Arabia. As stated by Saudi Arabia's Defense Minister, Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, the alliance members agreed to "activate [the mechanism of] collective deterrence in response to these attacks and against all those behind them."
