Iran is holding talks with several countries on ensuring the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on CBS’s Face the Nation program, APA reports.
“Representatives of a number of countries have approached Tehran, stating that they want to discuss the safe passage of oil and gas tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. We are open to dialogue with countries that want to discuss the issue of the safe passage of their ships with us. The decision on this matter must be made by the military, and they have already allowed a group of vessels belonging to different countries to pass through a safe and protected area. Some countries, however, are not sending their ships to the area voluntarily due to the ‘aggression shown by the United States and the unstable situation in the region,’” the Iranian foreign minister said.
Earlier Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with Al Araby Al Jadeed that the Strait of Hormuz is open to everyone except the United States and its allies.
