Baku-APA. One person was confirmed dead in a shooting on Monday at Delta State University of Mississippi where a campus lockdown was imposed after reports of an active shooter, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Local deputy coroner Murray Roark said that the dead man was in his mid-50s and was shot dead inside an office in Jobe Hall at the campus.
University officials so far were still withholding information of the slain man, but U.S. TV networks CNN reported that the victim was a professor of the university.
The university said on its Twitter account that the shooter was spotted on campus near Jobe Hall.
Citing one university spokeswoman, local media reported that it was still an "active situation" and it remained unknown whether anyone else was wounded.
The lockdown began around 10:45 a.m. local time, when the university authorities advised students, faculty and staff to take shelter and stay away from windows.
