The United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is said to have warned of the "increased" possibility of the Hamas attack days before the tensions escalated in the region, sources told CNN on Friday, APA reports.
However, it is unclear on whether the intelligence was shared with Israel. According to the people familiar with the matter, the initial alert was issued on September 28, raising concerns that the militant group might be preparing for an escalation in rocket attacks across the border. By October 6, the day preceding the attack, Washington received information from Israel about "unusual activity" by Hamas.
CNN also reported citing an unnamed senior official from an Arab country in the Middle East as saying that their country repeatedly raised concerns with the United States and Israel about Palestinian frustration reaching a "dangerous" point and the alleged buildup of Hamas weapons. According to the source, their reports were ignored.
