The first meeting on the strategic dialogue on security issues between Georgia and the European Union is to take place in Tbilisi today.

Georgia is one of the most important components of Europe’s security system, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at a government meeting, APA’s local bureau reported.

"The commencement of a high-level strategic dialogue on security issues between Georgia and the EU is a very important achievement. Of course, this is a great honor and at the same time responsibility,” Kvirikashvili said stressing that the dialogue with the EU proves the role of Georgia in strengthening security and stability in the region.

According to Kvirikashvili, the most important part of the dialogue will be the Russia-Georgia conflict and its peaceful settlement.

"Also, the fight against terrorism, radicalism, extremism and organized crime are of the important issues. The strategic dialogue format will help achieve maximum compatibility with EU security and defense systems and structures,” he added.
