Azerbaijan detains 38 for illegal cross-border attempts in March

Baku. Fuad Jafarov – APA. Some 38 people have been captured for attempting to illegally cross the state border of Azerbaijan in 26 cases over the last month, the State Border Service (SBS) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Of them, 16 were citizens of Azerbaijan, 7 – Bangladesh, 4 - Uzbekistan, 4 - Georgia, 2 - Tajikistan, 3 – Nigeria, one citizen from each country such as Iran, Belgium, Turkey and Moldova, according to the statement.

Some 14 people were detained in 7 cases on green border, 45 in 22 cases in the Caspian Sea and 759 in 599 cases at border checkpoints, the statement said.

As a result of measures taken against drug trafficking, 478,380 gram of drugs were seized in 7 cases, said the statement.

Moreover, the smuggling of goods totally worth about AZN 20,121,000, including a pistol, a pneumatic pistol, a rifle, a 9 mm cartridge, three 12mm cartridges, a electroshock weapon, a brass knuckle, USD 48,916, 25,626 packets of cigarette, 1,900 jewels, 13 mobile phones, various medicines, alcohol, industrial and agricultural goods were prevented in 93 cases, the statement said.
