Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations to hold monitoring during Ramadan, the committee deputy chairman Siyavush Heydarov said at an event held in the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) on Thursday.

He noted that drastic measures will be taken against anyone promoting dissidence over Islamic calendar in the country.

“In case anyone promotes dissidence over Islamic calendar, such an action will be deemed violation of religious freedom as well as an attempt to provoke sectarian confrontation and will be therefore be taken legal action against. We’re asking you to inform us if you come across any such case, and we will take necessary action in collaboration with law enforcement bodies,” Heydarov said.

Heydarov noted that if any such calendar is found on sale at a religious shop, necessary action will be taken.

“Those religious shops need to have a relevant permit so that they can sell religious books and items. At the same time, last year we began to paste a control label on religious books. If these books are on sale at the Committee’s permission, there must be a control label on them. Otherwise, criminal responsibility will be raised,” he warned.

The committee deputy chairman noted that there is a need to work with such persons.

“We should explain to them the political and legal aspects of this matter. By doing such acts, they may harm our unity, which has not been achieved all of a sudden but through painstaking efforts by our state. Our unity, tolerance, and multiculturalism may well be an example to the world. Despite being a small country, Azerbaijan discusses major issues like global security,” he added.
