As a result of the latest investigative and operational measures taken by the State Security Service, citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Adiyev Orkhan Mehdi, Mukhtarov Ibad Abbasali, Abdullayev Mahabbat Sharif, Badalov Rasim Asaf, Azizov Ilahi Rashaig, Mammadov Zohrab Mumbariz, Abdullazade Zarbali Isgandar and Marfin Vladimir Yengenyevich were detained on suspicion of being involved in the creation of armed groups, not provided by the legislation of Azerbaijan, and participating in their activities, providing them with ammunition and equipment, holding military exercises outside the territory of Azerbaijan on the grounds of religious hatred and committing other illegal actions.
It was revealed that Orkhan Adiyev, Ibad Mukhtarov, Mahabbat Abdullayev, Rasim Badalov, Ilahi Azizov, Zohrab Mammadov, Abdullazade Zarbali and Marfin Vladimir illegally crossed into Syria and Iraq in 2012-2015.
They received military and religious trainings within the IS terrorist group and other terrorist organizations illegally operating on the territories of those countries and gained experience in using various types of firearms.
After undergoing the trainings, they joined military operations and battles in Syria and Iraq in the ranks of regular terrorist and other illegal armed groups.
Zohrab Mammadov joined Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar in Syria and Ibad Mukhtarov joined Jamaah Muwahhid in Iraq, getting wounded in the battles they fought for the groups.
It became clear that Vladimir Marfin, an experienced former member of the USSR military’s special purpose groups, illegally entered Syrian territory where he conducted gunfire and combat trainings for Azerbaijani citizens recruited into the illegal group called “Azeri Jamaah”, providing the illegal armed groups operation in Syria with food and other means necessary for military operations.
A preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen against the detainees.
