Heavy snow kills at least one, hits power supply in Bulgaria

Baku-APA. Heavy snowfall and strong winds killed at least one man, hit power supply and closed more than 200 schools in Bulgaria, officials said here Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The body of the 64-year-old man, who died of frostbite, was found Monday morning in the village of Gorna Kula, some 315 km southeast of Sofia, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

Snowfall also hit power supply, leaving 755 villages without electricity through the country, the Ministry of Energy said.

Temenuzhka Petkova, Minister of Energy, said the situation was most severe in the southern provinces of Smolyan, Haskovo and Kardzhali, where snow depth in some places reached up to 1.5 meters.

The Ministry of Education temporarily closed 210 schools due to the bad weather, it said on its website.
