Department chief of the ministry’s press service, Orkhan Mansurzadeh said in a statement to APA that the politicizing of a common crime is inadmissible.
According to him, at around 20:15 January 26, 2015, an unknown person grasped G. Ismayilova by her neck at the entrance of the building in which she lives, and tried to drag her toward himself, but fled the area as the latter started to scream.
Right after the Interior Ministry’s service 102 received the information, the incident was recorded at Police Department #24 of the Nizami District Police Office and the fact was investigated: “Statements that the police didn’t record the incident lacks a legal basis. Gunay Ismayilova described the incident in detail. As she didn’t receive any injures, she refused to undergo forensic examination.”
Mansurzade said that the criminal case was launched over the fact under article #221.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code on January 28. The Investigation Department of the Nizami District Police Office is investigating the case: “The politicizing of the issue is unacceptable. This is a common crime. Investigation to find the perpetuator is underway.”
Some media outlets have recently released information that Deputy Director of IRFS Gunay Ismayilova was attacked at the entrance of the building in which she lives. Reports linked the attack with her professional activity, and regarded the incident as a plot against her life.
