Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Armenia conducting exercises in Azerbaijan’s occupied territories following the presidents’ Paris meeting has been condemned at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s 60th Annual Autumn Session in The Hague.
In its speech during the session’s plenary meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation raised the issue of Armenia conducting military exercises on the front line following the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents’ Paris meeting, member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, MP Malahat Ibrahimqizi said in a statement to APA.
According to her, new NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who chaired the plenary meeting, answered the Azerbaijan delegation’s questions about the exercises, while leaving the Armenians’ baseless claims unanswered: “He spoke out against the exercises, calling them illegal. He also said the issue must be settled peacefully and the negotiation process respected, adding that territorial integrity and sovereignty are main principles for NATO”.
M. Ibrahimqizi noted that both Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations put forward proposals at the session: “The Armenians’ proposal – the issue of people’s right to self-determination was not even approved for discussion, while Azerbaijan’s proposal was accepted and an article supporting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty was added to the resolution “Provision and support to NATO’s partners”. Despite the Armenian delegation made serious efforts to cause confusion at the time the resolution was adopted, NATO PA countries voted for the document”.
