Baku to host four matches of UEFA Euro 2020

Apasport.az website reports that Baku will be one of the host cities of UEFA Euro 2020.

This decision was made by the UEFA Executive Committee at today’s conference. 13 host cities for the 2020 European Championship were selected at the Espace Hippomène, Geneva, Switzerland.

The delegation led by AFFA President Rovnag Abdullayev also attended the announcement ceremony. According to the results, the tournament will be held in Azerbaijan (Baku), Denmark (Copenhagen), Germany (Munich), Hungary (Budapest), Ireland (Dublin), Italy (Rome), Netherlands (Amsterdam), Romania (Bucharest), Russia (Saint Petersburg), Scotland (Glasgow), Spain (Bilbao) and Belgium (Brussels).

Baku, Munich, St Petersburg and Rome will each host a quarter final and three group stage matches.

12 countries will host four games each in the group stages and one knock-out match in the tournament.

London will host the final and semi-finals of the 2020 European football championship.

Starting with the 2016 edition in France, the European Championship will have a new format, with 24 teams playing a total of 51 games over four weeks. For the 60th anniversary of the European Championship, first held in 1960, UEFA decided to organize the tournament across the whole continent.

Baku also won the right to host 2015 European Games, under 17 European Championships and Chess Olympiad that will take place in 2016 and 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games.
