Baku-APA. The European Union (EU) on Thursday condemned the Islamic militant group that beheaded U.S. journalist James Foley, saying it is committed to fight against terrorism with "all means", APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"We strongly condemn the outrageous murder of the US journalist James Foley by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)," said a statement by the European External Action Service, or the EU's foreign policy arm.

"We express our sincere condolences to the family of this distinguished journalist, to his friends and colleagues," the statement said.

Noting that such forms of terrorism constitute one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the EU said it is "more committed than ever to support international efforts to fight terrorism, to combat human rights violations and to restore the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and Syria."

"The EU will use all means at its disposal to contribute to this endeavor," the statement said. Meanwhile, the EU also pledged to promote the safety of journalists in the Middle East and worldwide.

A video released on Tuesday showed that a masked militant from the Islamic State insurgent group beheaded James Foley, a freelance journalist, to avenge the ongoing U.S. air raids on the group's targets.
