Community will continue its activities aimed at return of Western Azerbaijanis to their homeland - Chairman

“The Joint Declaration signed by the Honorable Mr. President Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia in Washington is a document regulating interstate relations. The activities of the Community are public activities aimed at ensuring human rights and the right of return as enshrined in international conventions. In this sense, the activities of the Community have no direct connection with interstate relations or a peace agreement,” the Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, MP Aziz Alakbarli said in response to the question, “On August 8 of this year, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed a Joint Declaration in Washington, witnessed by US President Donald Trump, advancing the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process. A peace agreement between the two countries has been initialed. Recently, some Internet resources have reported that the Western Azerbaijan Community will no longer continue its activities. What can you say about this?” APA reports.

"Our activity is to return to our ancestral lands peacefully. The community has never opposed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. As Mr. President emphasized, we will return to Western Azerbaijan not with tanks, but with cars.

The Western Azerbaijan Community welcomes the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and supports Mr. President's efforts in this direction. We hope that the progress of the peace agenda will create conditions for us Western Azerbaijanis to return to our homeland peacefully. The Western Azerbaijan Community will continue its activities in this area," the head of the Community emphasized.
