The Ugandan military on Monday urged the public to be on alert after intelligence reports showed that a group of Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters had crossed into the country from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), APA reports citing Xinhua.

Deo Akiiki, Uganda's deputy military spokesperson, told reporters in the Ugandan capital of Kampala that the rebels crossed into the country two days ago, noting that the group is under instruction from the Tanzanian-born ADF bomb expert Ahamed Muhamood Hasssan, also known as Abu Waqas.

Akiiki urged the public to be vigilant, adding that the ADF still seeks to send terror groups to Uganda, especially urban areas, places of worship, schools, and public gatherings.

He said the military has been put on high alert, and the security forces are highly prepared to protect Ugandans from attacks.

The ADF was responsible for the killing of two tourists at a national park in western Uganda and for the killing of at least 40 people, mostly students, last year, according to the Ugandan military.

Uganda and the Congolese troops in November 2021 launched a military operation dubbed "Operation Shujaa" to wipe out the ADF, after it carried out twin bombings in Kampala that killed six people and injured 33 others.
