"Iranian regime attempted to place its people in mosques in Azerbaijan. In order to prevent this, the Religious Committee worked with enough patience and purposefully," said Chairman of State Committee on Work with Religious Associations Mubariz Gurbanli.
He stressed that after the authority of appointments in mosques was transferred to the Committee, about 120 persons who have studied in Azerbaijan and are able to represent the interests of the country have been appointed. 118 clerics were suspended from their jobs:
“…The regime of Iran tries to indoctrinate religion under the name of ideology and politics, and wants to spread its state religion model to Azerbaijan and other surrounding countries. It also conducted campaigns on social networks to carry out this propaganda in Azerbaijan. Extensive measures have been taken and are underway to prevent this”.
