The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics starts today, APAsport reports.
Some competitions of the 32nd Summer Olympics started two days ago, but the official opening will take place on July 23.
More than 11,000 athletes from 204 countries are expected to take part in the largest multi-sport competition, which will last 17 days. They will compete for 339 sets of medals in 33 sports. Last year's Olympics, which were postponed due to a coronavirus pandemic, will go down in history as the first race to be delayed. Although the competitions have been canceled so far, there have been no delays.
The capital of Japan, which will host this prestigious competition for the second time, will be the first for 4 sports. Karate, sport rock climbing, skateboarding and surfing will be included in the Olympic program for the first time.
Azerbaijani national team with 40 licenses will be represented by a team of 5 people in group exercises in rhythmic gymnastics. Shooter Ruslan Lunyov is the only representative of the national team who will try his chances of winning a medal twice in Tokyo.
