The 13th trilateral meeting between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, Türkiye’s Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler, and Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani was held in Shusha, APA reports citing Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense.
At the opening ceremony of the trilateral meeting, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense delivered a welcoming speech. Recalling with pleasant impressions the meetings held in Türkiye last year and in Georgia the year before, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov particularly noted that the sincere friendship between the heads of state plays an invaluable role in the high-level development of relations among the countries.
He stated that precisely as a result of their joint efforts, the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye trilateral cooperation format has already turned into a successful regional cooperation mechanism that can serve as an example for other countries and continues to make a significant contribution to peace, security and stability.
The defense ministers of Azerbaijan and Georgia once again expressed their condolences to their Turkish counterpart over the servicemen who were killed in the plane crash and respectfully stated that they share the grief of the Turkish people.
During the meeting, it was noted that the peoples of the three countries have lived in an atmosphere of good neighborliness and friendship for centuries and that relations among the states continue to develop steadily today.
It was stated that cooperation based on mutual trust is of great importance in ensuring the well-being of the peoples.
The meeting highlighted the importance of joining efforts to address the challenges of the modern era, as well as to combat factors that could pose threats to the security of the region.
The defense ministers particularly emphasized the importance of expanding the scope of trilateral exercises and training.
Confidence was expressed that the expansion of trilateral cooperation in the defense sphere would benefit not only the three countries but also contribute to strengthening peace, stability and security in the region.
The sides emphasized the importance of the “Eternity” and “Caucasian Eagle” exercises, as well as other joint drills involving their servicemen, once again noting that these activities play an important role in cooperation, exchange of experience and strengthening the defense capabilities of their armed forces.
The ministers also discussed cooperation in the military, military-technical, military education and military medicine fields, exchanged proposals on prospects for expanding trilateral relations, and held detailed discussions on other issues of mutual interest.
At the end of the meeting, a protocol on the outcomes of the trilateral meeting was signed, followed by a press conference for media representatives.
Speaking at the press conference, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov emphasized that the meetings had been useful and expressed satisfaction with the dynamics of the development of cooperation among the countries. He noted that the sides intend to further expand and deepen these ties.
