The Austrian newspaper Der Standard published a reportage titled "Danger of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh" on 21.10.2023, the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan (MEDIA) told APA.

It was noted that the author of the material, TV journalist Joe Angerer, presented various details as facts without conducting any research and created a false impression about the local anti-terrorist operation conducted by Azerbaijan on September 19 of this year based on the norms and principles of international law.

"In order to direct the audience, the journalist turned the comment part of the news into an object of manipulation rather than the scale and content of the news, violated the balance principle of journalism by not taking into account the opinion of the other party, and prepared a one-sided material that does not objectively express the current situation in the region.

The relevant official authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan respect the right of all journalists to access information, regardless of which media subject they work for and which country they represent, and are always ready to promptly respond to journalist inquiries. We would like to emphasize that neither "Der Standard" newspaper nor Joe Angerer made any appeal to the relevant state authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the local anti-terrorist operation.

It should be noted that in the report given in the mentioned newspaper, putting forward a fictitious version about the loss of civilians during the local anti-terrorist operation is fake news ("fake news"). Thus, the report did not take into account the opinion of the United Nations (UN) mission, which visited the region many times at the invitation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, that no damage was done to the civilian population during the local anti-terrorist operation, and that no facts were recorded in this regard. We would like to remind you that

The employees of the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international organizations have not confirmed any cases of the expulsion of residents of Armenian origin by the military forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the use of force against them. Also, in their numerous statements to the international media subjects who came to the region, as well as to the leading media organizations of Armenia, the people of Armenian origin repeatedly emphasized the fact that no harm was done to the civilian population.

As the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, "Der Standard" newspaper expresses its regret that the publication of material that distorts reality based on personal, subjective political considerations and is incompatible with the principles of media ethics and journalistic professionalism, at the same time, taking into account the official position of the Republic of Azerbaijan. We urge you to prepare material about the current political realities in our region", the information says.
